Certified organic honey is a natural sweetener produced by bees from nectar that comes from organically grown plants and flowers, free from synthetic pesticides and chemicals. It is typically found in health food stores or specialized organic markets. For pets, especially cats and dogs, certified organic honey is generally safe when given in small, controlled amounts. It contains natural sugars, antioxidants, and some vitamins and minerals. However, excessive consumption can lead to obesity, tooth decay, and gastrointestinal upset due to its high sugar content. Cats lack a sweet taste receptor and do not typically enjoy sweet foods, so they are less likely to consume honey, but small amounts are not toxic to them.
