About Sertraline
Sertraline is a prescription medication manufactured by Major Pharmaceuticals, administered orally in the form of film-coated tablets. Each tablet contains 100 mg of the active ingredient sertraline hydrochloride. Sertraline is classified as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and is commonly used to treat a variety of conditions in humans, including depression, anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic attacks, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While Sertraline is beneficial for treating these conditions in humans, it can be toxic to cats and dogs if ingested. Pets that consume sertraline may exhibit symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, agitation, increased heart rate, and seizures. In severe cases, ingestion of a large amount could be fatal. If a pet has ingested sertraline, it is crucial to seek immediate veterinary attention to mitigate potential poisoning and ensure the animal's safety.
