About OLEA EUROPAEA

OLIVE (OLEA EUROPAEA) manufactured by ALK-Abello, Inc. is a non-standardized allergenic extract used principally for diagnosing and treating allergies to black olive pollen in humans. The preparation contains an active ingredient with a concentration of 0.1 g/mL of black olive. It is administered percutaneously as an injection solution. For humans, this allergenic extract helps diagnose the presence of an allergic response or helps build tolerance to the allergen over time as part of immunotherapy treatments. When it comes to pets, specifically cats and dogs, ingestion of the drug can lead to toxicity. While black olives themselves are not inherently toxic to cats and dogs, certain components and preservatives that might be present in allergenic extracts can cause adverse reactions. Symptoms of toxicity in pets may include gastrointestinal distress (such as vomiting and diarrhea), lethargy, and in severe cases, neurologic symptoms. If a cat or dog ingests this drug, it’s crucial to seek immediate veterinary attention to manage and mitigate potential health risks.
